Dot: La Femme Code Point of Purchase Kiosk Concept

I had to create a kiosk within a list of concepts: health, 3D printing, and outdoor cinema. I went with health with an emphasis on menstruation because it is a topic most women have to talk around to not get raised looks. Even though this happens to a majority of the population it is still considered a taboo topic to talk about. There are movements to normalize this natural occurrence on women. An example is the commercials of Tampax using Amy Schumer, a comedian, saying, “It is time to Tampax.”

For the kiosk branding, I wanted the overall look to be friendly and fun. I got inspiration from the ‘80s aesthetic. I chose a pastel color palette to focus on the friendly aspect and from the ‘80s clothing color palette.

For the name, I explored euphemisms for menstruation. After I refined the main name to dot, I wanted to tie it back to women. I started with black and white composition to see the balance of a stacked name. Then I explored the color format. From the main name: dot, I saw a pattern by using outline strokes and the filled shape by using the main four colors.

The name of the colors I chose was a fun part of the project. the inspiration of the names came from phrases that were popular in the ‘80s and some are still used today.
